MBC’s historical drama “The Duo” bounced back to the top of TV charts for the primetime slot of Mondays and Tuesdays, according to surveys by two media research companies on Wednesday.
“The Duo” stood the sole winner on TV charts after posting an average viewership rating of 13.4 percent on Total National Multimedia Statistics's (TNmS) ranking and 17.1 percent on AGB Nielsen Media Research’s (AGB) poll, both numbers showing about two percent gains from last week.
Starring Chun Jung-myung, Lee Sang-yun and Han Ji-hye, the drama depicts the life of commoners amid social corruption in 19th century Korea, centering its story on the twisted fate of two men who got switched at birth.
Competing hard for the No. 2 spot were two new romantic series, namely KBS’ “Youthful Beauty” and SBS’ “Lie To Me” which kicked off last week and this week, respectively.
“Youthful Beauty” starring Jang Nara, Choi Daniel, Oh Yeon-seo and Ryu Jin, came second on TNmS’ chart after scoring an average viewership rating of 9.2 percent while “Lie To Me” trailed behind with 8.25 percent.
The show, which is about a 34-year-old single woman who fakes her age in order to get a job at a textile company, seeks to show the discrimination females tend to face in the workplace in Korean society.
AGB’s chart showed opposite results however, placing “Lie To Me” on second place with an average viewership rating of 9.7 percent and “Youthful Beauty” on hot pursuit with a mark of 9.3 percent.
“Lie To Me” starring Yoon Eun-hye, Kang Ji-hwan, Park Ji-yoon and Cho Youn-hee, is a romantic comedy about a female level five government employee who gets entangled in a marriage scandal with a young and handsome hotel president.
