Korean rapper PSY is hitting the big time in “Gangnam Style.”
According to data reported by Billboard Friday, "Gangnam Style" has made its debut at No. 64 on Billboard's coveted Hot 100 chart.
The impressive outcome nabbed by PSY's horse riding dance has broken the previous record set by the Wonder Girls, who landed at No. 76 on Billboard's singles chart with an English version of “Nobody” in 2009.
The soaring international popularity of “Gangnam Style” was also spotted on iTunes’ music charts.
Trotting along past Alicia Keys and leaping over Justin Bieber, PSY's catchy tune ranked at No. 5 on iTunes top songs chart in the United States as of Friday afternoon. The song has also topped the iTunes charts in Canada as well as Denmark, Finland, Netherlands and Norway.
Meanwhile, “Gangnam Style” has been listed as one of the most popular English words on Time magazine's internet dictionary that includes "useful, new and surprising words," according to the magazine's report Thursday.
The article read, “This definition is adapted from an Urban Dictionary entry-an increasingly popular entry since South Korean rapper PSY released a cheeky music video celebrating ‘Gangnam style.'"
"Gangnam Style," the title single off K-pop artist PSY's sixth studio album "Six Rules, Part. 1" dropped on July 15, has been going viral thanks to his hilarious music video online.
Shooting PSY to the international music scene as an iconic star of K-pop, "Gangnam Style" music video has attracted over 166 million views on his official YouTube channel as of Friday.
