Actor Ahn Jae-wook has been cast as the main star to an upcoming TV series, his first small screen role in three years.

A press release by promoter iMC said on Wednesday that Ahn will play Korea's first man in show business in the drama named "Light and Shadow" (translated title).

The series will revolve around the life of this man while also depicting on the main events which occurred in Korean history from the 1960s to present day Korea.

Producer Lee Joo-hwan and writer Choi Wan-kyu of the famed "Jumong" series from 2006 will come together to create the upcoming 50-part series set for a premiere in November, after current show "Gyebaek."

"Ahn in no way lacks the ability to lead a 50-part drama...... His various activities, particularly as a singer and musical actor on top of being a TV actor, will probably be of great help for the show," officials with the show were quoted as saying in the statement.

In the meantime, actress Nam Sang-mi and singer Son Dambi are being considered for the roles of the main two female characters to the series, a movie star and singer, respectively, although related officials have said decisions have yet to be made.

Ahn, 40, shot to stardom through MBC TV series "Star in My Heart" in 1997 and expanded his career into music the same year.

He is also one of the first generation of Korean celebrities to gain recognition in countries in the Asia region.
