Boy band BEAST and girl group 2NE1 topped televised music shows staged on Friday and Sunday, respectively. BEAST was announced the winner on KBS’ “Music Bank” last Friday with the song “On Rainy Days” from their digital single of the same name and also from their first regular album “Fiction and Fact,” both released in mid-May. The song, which expresses the sadness and regret coming from lost love against the sounds of raindrops and a guitar, is also the first song that is not an album's title track to top the present chart. “To have a non-title track to win the chart... we will take this as a sign to work harder for better music,” said Son Dong-woon, the youngest of the member in his acceptance speech. The other members of the group expressed their gratitude as well while chanting out the name of their official fan club B2UTY. Separately, 2NE1 received the top honor on SBS’ “Inkigayo” with their song “Lonely” from the group’s digital single of the same name released in mid-May and is also set to be included in the group’s upcoming mini-album scheduled to go on sale on June 23. “Thank you for helping us return to the stage,” said 2NE1's members in their acceptance speech after receiving the Mutizen Award given to the winner of the week. It was the first time 2NE1 appeared on the stage to sing the song -- the group’s agency YG Entertainment had notified beforehand that 2NE1 would not promote any of their songs from the upcoming record but scheduled their one-time appearance by continued request of fans.“Lonely” is a song about a breakup which stressed the group’s vocals alongside the performance of string instruments. On the same day, the group also performed to main vocalist Park Bom’s solo song “DON’T CRY” which had swept top slots of several major music charts in the country. Meanwhile, other singers that appeared on both shows during the weekend included Jang Woo-hyuk, FTIsland, Baek Ji-young, X-5, f(x), Jewelry, Eru, Clover and Norazo.※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
