Korean actor Ki Tae-young will be joining a number of K-pop artists in an upcoming SBS TV series, the show's promoter 3HW said in a press release Friday.
Ki has been cast to portray a stylish doctor named Jang Min-woo in "Beautiful You" (translated title), set to air every Wednesday and Thursday nights starting next month.
Jang (Ki) works as the doctor at the high school where Kang Tae-joon (played by SHINee's Minho) and Goo Jae-hee (played by f(x)'s Sulli) attends. He becomes the first person to discover that Goo, who disguises herself as a boy, is actually a girl.
The producers from the show explained that Ki has the charisma and smooth image which will help him well depict Jang's character.
Directed by Jeon Gi-sang of KBS' "Boys Over Flowers" and scenarist Lee Young-chul, "Beautiful You" tells the story of Goo trying to help the gold-medal-winning pole jumper Kang to revive his career.
The TV adaptation of the popular Japanese comic book "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi)" will co-star actor Lee Hyun-woo, INFINITE's L and ZE:A's Kwang-hee.
The officials said the original comic strip has sold over 17 million copies and was later reproduced in a Japanese TV series, which had aired in the country for eight years starting 1996.
The popular show was also adapted for a Taiwanese drama in 2006 and it had brought in high viewership ratings during its run.
Ki made his debut with a role in KBS TV series "Adults Just Don't Know" in 1997 and has since starred in a number of dramas including "Terroir (SBS, 2009)" and "Seeking Love (MBC, 2010)," and movies "Space (2009)" and "Today (2011)."
