The new poster for the 17th annual Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), one of Asia’s largest and most renowned film festival, was revealed on Wednesday.
The 17th BIFF poster is designed by the festival’s art director Choi Soon-dae, adapting the painting from healing artist Hong Purume’s “Opening His Light,” according to the event’s press release yesterday.
Hong’s original piece tried to represent the ‘creation of the world’ and ‘freedom,’ and what it appears to be light spreading out in the painting meant to show a camera flash, the officials noted.
Hong is currently a professor at Koshin University in Busan, teaching formative arts. He is also known to open his own exhibitions regularly in Switzerland by signing an exclusive contract with Mimesis Contemporary Art Gallery in the country.
The annual festival will take place at the Busan Cinema Center in Busan, the largest cultural Cineplex in Asia with four large screening venues and 4,000-seat outdoor screening facility, from October 4 to 13.
Meanwhile, the Asian Film Market and Asian Project Market, which will run screening sessions and venues to discuss business regarding distribution deals, will be held during the long-awaited festive for three days, from October 8 to 11.
