Girls' Generation 1st Japan album goes double platinum

Korean female idols Girls' Generation has collected another title in Japan with their first Japanese album getting certified double platinum. According to data for June posted on the official website of Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), the girls' first full-length Japanese album "GIRLS' GENERATION" achieved double platinum status after selling over 500,000 copies in just a month of going on sale on June 1. Under RIAJ's criteria, music content that sells over 100,000 copies are certified Gold, 250,000 as Platinum and one million as Million."GIRLS' GENERATION," composed of a total 12 tracks, including all of the group’s past hit songs such as “MR. TAXI,” “Gee,” “GENIE”, "Run Devil Run” and "HOOT,” sold over 232,000 copies in a week of going on sale, making it the first time in Oricon history for an international girl group’s first full-length release to reach the No. 1 spot on the weekly chart. The group, composed of members Taeyeon, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Jessica, Seohyun, Yoona, Yuri and Sooyoung, is currently one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia which made their debut in Korea in 2007.They expanded their careers into Japan in August of last year where they have enjoyed much success, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and winning gold disc status several times. Recently, the girls won two trophies at MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ) for Best Group Video and Best Karaokee! Song for the Japanese version of "Genie."
