DreamWorks’ hit animation “Kung Fu Panda 2” stayed a champion on the Korean weekend box office for a third consecutive week.

On the third week since its premiere, “Kung Fu Panda 2” drew in 491,328 viewers at 745 theaters nationwide, grossing nearly 4.2 billion won during the three day session, revealed the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.


“Kung Fu Panda 2,” the sequel to 2008 film “Kung Fu Panda” about a clumsy panda learning the skills of kung fu and saving the day, stars the voices of top Hollywood stars such as Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Oldman and Angelina Jolie.

Superhero flick “X-Men: First Class” was ranked at No. 2 for another week after bringing in a total 323,763 moviegoers in 589 theaters.


The film which is the fifth installment of X-Men series following “X-Men,” “X 2,” “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” takes the story back to the past to show how those with supernatural power came to establish their identity and take sides to either cooperate or confront the human race.


Korean film “Sunny,” which is being screened in 510 theaters, took the third place also for third straight week on box office chart after selling a total 271,232 tickets.


“Sunny” starring Yoo Ho-jeong, Sim Eun-kyeong and Jin Hee-kyeong, which looks back to the youthful moment of the 80s through the memory of seven women in their mid-thirties, premiered on May 4 and has remained on the top slots of the box office ever since.


Other films ranked from fourth to tenth place on the same chart were “Moby Dick,” “White,” “Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Priest,” “SCRE4M,” “Mama” and “Meet The In-Laws.”
