TVXQ claims No.1 in Japan’s Oricon monthly singles chart

TVXQ’s latest single album has claimed first place on Japan’s prestigious Oricon monthly singles chart, according to its official website. The duo’s single “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” was ranked No.1 on Oricon singles monthly chart for January after selling over 231,000 copies in just six days of its release on January 26. This is the second highest number of sales a single by a foreign artist in Japan has seen in a week -- TVXQ’s 29th single album “BREAK OUT” sold 256,000 copies during a seven-day period after its release last year on January 27. TVXQ, formerly composed of five members Hero Jaejoong, Mickey Yuchun, Max Changmin and U-Know Yunho, enjoyed high popularity throughout Asia as one the leading dance groups in K-pop scene since their debut in 2004. However, after disputing with agency SM Entertainment over the unfairness of their 13-year exclusive contract, Jaejoong, Yuchun and Junsu halted their activities as TVXQ and instead formed trio JYJ.TVXQ is now a duo group led by two remaining members Changmin and Yunho have been busy promoting "Why " in Korea which is the group’s first album released after two-year long hiatus in the country. The song has been doing well so far at home as well, having topped various off and online music charts as well as major music programs of public network such as KBS’ “Music Bank,” SBS’ “Inkigayo” for three straight weeks, respectively. In Japan, they will celebrate the release of “Why” with 15,000 fans through a meet-and-greet today at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba City.
