"I Do I Do" ends with lower-than-expected numbers

The love story of a career woman may have come to a happy ending but that is not enough to judge if the TV series has really come to an happy end.

MBC's "I Do I Do" has quitely closed its curtains after eight weeks of airing with an average rating of 8.2 percent this week, according to data compiled by TNmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics) on Friday.

Starring actress Kim Suna and actor Lee Jang-woo, the story about a successful female shoe designer has been keeping its position at the bottom of the Wednesday and Thursday primetime ratings chart throughout the whole 16 episodes.

In the meantime, the chart-topper KBS' "Gaksital" has widened its ratings gap with SBS' "Ghost" and maintained its reign atop the chart.

The Joo Won's starrer saw an increase of only 0.6 percent from last week and attracted 17.6 percent of the total viewers during the third week of July.

"Ghost," which has been chasing closely behind the winner with a steady increase in ratings, logged 15.6 percent this week, a drop of 0.8 percent from the previous figure posted.

AGB Nielson Media Research, another accredited ratings website, showed the dramas in the same order of popularity but with slightly different numbers.

"Gaksital" grabbed the top seed with the support of 16 percent of the TV audience, followed by "Ghost" and "I Do I Do" each registering ratings of 13.6 and 9 percent.

Starting August 15, "Arangsattojeon" (in Romanized Korean) will air on MBC as the follow-up to "I Do I Do."

"Arangsattojeon," based on the traditional legend of the Miryang area in South Korea, draws the romance between a female ghost named Arang (played by Shin Mina) and a district magistrate in the Joseon Dynasty (played by Lee Joon-gi).
