Iconic K-pop groups Girls' Generation, 2NE1 and 2PM have been honored with trophies at last Saturday's MTV music video awards in Japan.
Girls' Generation, 2NE1 and 2PM have been prized under the categories of "Best Album of the Year," "Best New Artist Video" and "Best Group Video," respectively, at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Japan, held in Chiba, on June 23.
According to the event's organizers, the "Gee" singers have been awarded for their first full-length Japanese album "GIRLS' GENERATION."
"GIRLS' GENERATION," which was released in June 2011, lists a number of their hit songs such as "Gee," "GENIE," Run Devil Run" and has been certified with a double platinum status that year.
The album was one of the top-selling K-pop records in Japan last year and the girls also became the first international girl group in Oricon history to reach the No. 1 spot on Oricon's weekly chart with the successful album.
Additionally, 2NE1 was handed the prize under the best new artist video segment for the music video for "I AM THE BEST" and 2PM grabbed the win for best group video with "I'm Your Man."
All three K-pop acts have found success in Japan soon after expanding their singing activities into Japan, topping the prestigious Oricon music charts with each album being released there.
The groups have performed before thousands of fans at their concerts and tours, and provided more diverse events in fan meetings.
