Korean film "My Girlfriend Is An Agent," starring Kim Ha-neul and Kang Ji-hwan, will be remade in Bollywood, according to a Hollywood media outlet.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on Thursday that UTV Motion Pictures, an entertainment company in India, will take on production of the Hindi remake of the 2009 Kim and Kang blockbuster though the cast has yet to be announced.
The remake of "Agent" will be the directorial debut of Bosco, from the Bollywood choreographer duo Bosco-Caser, while famed director Indian director Imtiaz Ali will serve as the film's creative producer.
“From the day our team at UTV saw ‘Agent,’ we knew it was a film we just had to remake in Hindi. The characters of the two main leads are so endearing and the situations they find themselves in so hilarious, that it’s the perfect recipe for an action rom-com!” UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur was quoted as saying.
The original movie, helmed by Shin Tae-ra, tells the story of two spies that are on a mission to stop a Russian crime group from stealing an advanced chemical weapon.
In Korea, "Agent" opened in the local box office at the No. 1 spot and maintained its position on the top ten for nine consecutive weeks since its premiere two years ago in April.
Kim and Kang became household names throughout Asia after the two visited several countries including Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan to promote the pic.
