Romanian soprano opera singer Angela Gheorghiu will visit Korea for her third concert in the country this month, announced Seoul Arts Center where the performance will take place.
Seoul Arts Center revealed in its website that world-class diva Angela Gheorghiu will hold her third performance in Korea at the Concert Hall of Seoul Arts Center in Seoul on April 27.
Gheorghiu has already received much recognition at her last two concerts in Korea, held in 2002 and 2005.
For the upcoming concert, Gheorghiu will be accompanied by conductor Ion Marin and tenor Marius Brenciu to cover classic opera pieces by world famous composers including Verdi, Puccini, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, while performing with the Korean Symphony Opera.
Gheorghiu will sing to “O Soave Faniculla” from Puccini’s “La Boheme” and “Ebben Ne Andro Lotana” from Catalani La Wally’s opera while tenor Branciu and Marus and sing “Caro Elisir” by Donizetti in duet with tenor Branciu among other performances.
Dubbed as “The world’s most glamours opera star” by the New York Sun for both her singing skills and looks, Gheorghiu made her debut at Covent Garden as a heroine Violetta in an opera play "La Traviata" conducted by Sir Georg Solti in 1994.
Since then she has performed in many world prestigious theaters including Metropolitan and Wien Staatsoper and in 2000, starred in an opera film “Tosca” which premiered in Venice Film Festival the following year.
She won the 2001 Gramophone Award for “Best Opera Recording,” was nominated for “Best Opera Recording” in the 2002 “Grammy Awards and won the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis award in 2002 for her role in EMI recording of Puccini’s “Tosca,” among others.
Most recently she was bestowed with the “Star of Romania” title, the highest accolade handed by the president of her country in December 2010.
