Korean actor Oh Ji-ho will take on the main role in his first medical drama, making his return to the small in over two years since starring in hit historical series "The Slave Hunters."
A press release from his agency Heavenly Star said on Wednesday that Oh will play an oriental medicine doctor named Kim Seung-hyun, who is a troublemaker with a warm heart, in cable channel tvN's series "The Third Hospital" set to begin shooting next month.
"The Third Hospital" focuses on doctors working at a hospital that practices both oriental and non-oriental medicine while Kim (Oh) decides to leave his post at a regular hospital to master oriental medicine after losing his loved one due to a terminal illness.
"I'm kind of nervous since this is my first shot in a medical drama and I hope that I can pull off my role as a doctor," Oh said in the statement, adding that he has been studying with specialists at an oriental hospital in order to prepare for his role.
Making his debut in 1998, Oh started out in a number of television commercials and TV series and expanded his career into movies with roles in "I Love You" and "My Wife is a Gangster III."
He had several roles on the small screen including in "Super Rookie," "Couple or Trouble" and "The Slave Hunters" alongside stars Jang Hyuk and Lee Da-hae.
He recently filmed the movie "Gone With the Wind" (translated title) with actors Cha Tae-hyun, Sung Dong-il and Min Hyo-rin.
