'Doomsday Book' scoops up top prize at Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada

Famed Korean directors Kim Jee-woon and Yim Pil-sung's sci-fi feature "Doomsday Book" has scooped up the top prize at this year's Fantasia International Film Festival (FIFF) in Canada. On Monday, the official website revealed that "Doomsday Book" was honored with the Cheval Noir Award for best film during the annual fest which took place in Canada from July 19 to August 9. The jury, which was headed by director Gabriel Pelletier, Jay Baruchel, Sylvain Krief and Maggie Lee, explained that the film was awarded the prize for its intelligence and originality. "Doomsday Book" is an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller that shows three different stories of a human's self-destruction in the high-tech era. It focuses on the hope to restore genuine humanity in the modern society. It stars Ryoo Seung-beom, Kim Kang-woo, Jin Ji-hee and Kim Gyu-ri, and opened in local theaters on April 11, while it was pre-sold to six countries at this year's Berlin International Film Festival (BIFF).
