Films “End of Animal,” “Don’t Step Out of the House” sold to Germany

Two mystery fantasy films about the apocalypse have been sold to Germany, notified the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) on Tuesday. According to a press release from KAFA, writer and director Jo Sung-hee’s feature “End of Animal” (2010) and short film “Don’t Step Out of the House” (2008) were sold to German film distributor Rapid Eye, as confirmed by CJ Entertainment which is in charge of marketing the pics overseas. Rapid Eye had been eyeing “End of Animal” since this year's Berlin International Film Festival in February and after deciding to purchase the movie, picked up director Jo’s “Don’t Step Out of the House” as well.The German distributor is already known to have imported other Korean films in the past including director Lee Chang-dong’s “Secret Sunshine” (2007) and Park Chan-wook’s “Joint Security Area” (2000). “End of Animal” a low budget, feature length film starring Lee Min-ji, Park Hae-il, Yoo Sung-bok and Park Sae-jong that portrays the horror met when the world is about to come to an end through the eyes of a pregnant woman.The pic was in competition for the Vancouver International Film Festival's Dragons and Tigers Award for Young Cinema last year which awards a director from the Asia-Pacific region who is the early years of his or her career.Meanwhile, “Don’t Step Out of the House” depicts of the horror felt by two young siblings trapped in the shabby half-basement of their house when the world is set to come to an end.
