Thriller spin “Helpless” has snagged the top slot on the local box office for the second straight week.

"Helpless," which made its debut atop the box office chart last week, grabbed the top seed again by attracting 561,666 moviegoers between March 16 and 18, according to KOBIS (Korean Box Office Information System) on Monday.

Adopted from a Japanese mystery novel “All She Was Worth,” the movie features actress Kim Min-hee as a woman named Sun-young, who disappears before her wedding with her boyfriend named Moon-ho, played by actor Lee Sun-kyun.

Making its first appearance on the list after its open on Thursday, the action film “Chronicle,” starring Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan and Ashley Hinshaw, came in second with 205,511 ticket sales.

Meanwhile, “John Carter,” a movie adopted from the novel “A Princess of Mars” and appeared many times in short-lived comic strips and comic books, slid down one slot to the third place from last week and brought in 179,659 moviegoers during the three days.

The fictional film portrays the Civil War vet John Carter escaping from barbarians from Mars and encountering a princess who desperately seeks for a savior.

In addition, Korean movie “GABI (Coffee)," which made its debut on the same day as “Chronicle,” sat in fourth place with 139,717 ticket sales, followed by “The Vow” which recorded 110,309 admits.

Other movies in top ten include “Love Fiction,” “This Means War,” “Introduction to Architecture,” “War on Crime: the Golden Age of Bad Boys” and “Seeking Justice.”
