American action blockbuster “Fast Five” jumped to the top of the box office chart during the weekend of April 22 to 24, revealed the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.

“Fast Five,” starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Dwayne Johnson, which opened last Wednesday, became the winner of weekend box office after attracting 396,071 viewers in 554 theaters nationwide.


The film, which is the fifth of the series to “The Fast and the Furious” franchise, begins with former cop Brian O ‘Conner (Walker) and Mia Toretto (Brewster) helping ex-convict Dominic Toretto (Diesel) break out of custody. The three end up in Brazil where they have to accomplish a task to secure their freedom since a drug father and federal agent are hot on their heels to catch them.

Meanwhile, previous winner “The Suicide Forecast” got knocked down to the No. 2 spot after drawing in a total of 235,213 movie-goers during the same period in 471 theaters.


A local film starring Ryoo Seung-bum, Sung Dong-il and Park Chul-min, the film is about an insurance company salesman who tries to persuade his existing clients with possibility to commit suicide for various reasons, to cancel the life insurance he had forced on them, by trying to make them more hopeful of their lives.


“Meet The In-Laws” too, was pushed down a step from second to third place from last time, after selling 193,149 tickets in 420 theaters during the past three days.


“Meet The In-Laws,” a romantic comedy starring Song Sae-byeok and Lee Si-young, portrays the deep-rooted regionalism existent in Korea in the 1980’s through Hyun-joon, (played by Song) a cartoonist from Jeolla Province, who has to meet with the parents of his girlfriend Da-hong (Lee) from the Gyeongsang Province.


Other films that made to the top 10 on the weekend box are “The Last Blossom,” “Gnomeo and Juliet,” “Jane Eyre,” “I Am Father,” “The Rite” “Hanna” and “My Name Is Khan.”
