SHINee Jonghyun undergoes surgery for left ankle

SHINee member Jonghyun has undergone surgery for an injury to his left ankle.

"The singer went into surgery for his ankle on Monday," an official from his agency SM Entertainment told 10Asia over the phone. "The surgery has gone well and he is currently in recovery.

The idol singer had suffered minor injuries during a concert in Indonesia last October along with fellow groupmate Key but a few months later, Jonghyun was advised to receive surgery after thorough examination.

SHINee, composed of other members Minho, Taemin and Onew, made their debut in 2008 under major talenthouse SM Entertainment. They have produced a number of hit songs including "Reply," "Ring Ding Dong" and "LUCIFER."

The quintet will officially begin singing career in Japan this month, releasing their first album in March of next year through EMI Music Japan, a subsidiary of British music company EMI Group Ltd.
