Girls’ Generation reaches No. 2 on Oricon weekly chart

Girls’ Generation’s second single album “Gee” claimed the No. 2 spot on Japan's Oricon weekly singles chart this week.Oricon's official website showed that the nine-member group placed second on the chart with the album released October 20, making it the first time for a non-Japanese Asian female group to be included in the top three of famed chart. The last female group from overseas to have made it this far onto the chart was five-member group “Nolans” from the United Kingdom thirty years ago. The group, too, landed on the second-highest position on the chart in December 1980. “Gee” has fared well on several other music charts and portals as well, including i-tunes Music Video Chart, MUSICO Chart, Video Clip Chart and Recochoku Mobile Music Chart. Girls’ Generation’s first single album, which went on sale in early September, also enjoyed immediate popularity in the region, reaching fourth in terms of sales, according to Oricon's weekly chart.Separately the group revealed a new song titled “Hoot” in various Korean music portal sites on Monday, the title track to their mini-album which will be officially released on Wednesday.
