2PM's Nichkhun [JYP Entertainment]
K-pop idol Nichkhun of boy band 2PM will make his film debut in Japan, making him the first member of the group to take on a role in a Japanese movie. On Monday, JYP Entertainment (JYPE) announced in a press release that Nichkhun has been cast to play the president of Singapore's leading corporation named Lawrence in the film "Ouran High School Host Club" set to open in theaters in Japan on March 17 of next year. Lawrence is also the older brother to Michelle, an international student to be played by Japanese girl group AKB48 member Shinoda Mariko. "We felt that Nichkhun has what it takes to become an actor in the Japanese market and he had the characteristics to pull off the role of Lawrence," an official with production company said in the statement. "Ouran High School Host Club," based on the manga of the same name, tells the story of a female student named Haruhi (played by actress Kawaguchi Haruna) who disguises herself as a male host to repay a huge debt. Nichkhun, whose full name is Nichkun Buck Horvejkul, is a Thai-American singer who was discovered and trained by JYP Entertainment. His band 2PM expanded their music careers into Japan and released their debut single “Take Off” on May 18. They are currently on their Asia tour and will perform in Singapore on November 19. ※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
