JYJ appointed PR ambassador for Jeju Island

Male trio-band JYJ has been named the promotional ambassador for Korea’s southernmost island of Jeju, revealed Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on Tuesday.According to a government release, JYJ was named PR ambassador in mid-April as a means of gearing up promotion for the island which has been selected as one of 28 final candidates to the New7Wonders Project. JYJ will attend an commissioning ceremony for their new position as soon as they return from their ongoing world tour which kicked off last month and is scheduled to run till June. The New7Wonders Project is a transnational project picking the seven most wonderful natural sites in the world initiated by the New Wonders Foundation in Switzerland and whose final voting to select the seven scenic sites is underway worldwide via telephone, text message and Internet until November 10, 2011. The island which stands as Korea’s most well known tourist site, has already won several recognitions by UNESCO including for Biosphere Reserve in 2002, World Natural Heritage in 2007 and Global Geo-park in 2010. Jeju City and the National Committee for Jeju New7Wonders of Nature, have appointed another 35 figures in the fields of sports and entertainment as PR ambassadors to support the island’s efforts.Participants include K-pop artists Yoon Do-hyun, Kim Hyun-jung, Subin from Dal★shabet, Daniel from Dalmatian, sports stars Park Ji-sung, Chu Sung-hoon, Hines Ward as well as actors and mountaineers. JYJ, composed of Jaejoong, Yuchun and Junsu, made their debut in 2004 as part of popular boy band TVXQ, but later broke off from it despite their phenomenal success in Asia, after becoming involved in a legal dispute with the their agency SM Entertainment.The trio made their comeback to the music scene in October of last year as a trio under the name JYJ and released their record in mid-October after which they held a global showcase and held their first concert as JYJ.The boys will continue with their world tour holding several shows in North America, starting with their performance in Vancouver, Canada on May 20 followed by concerts in New Jersey on May 22, Los Angeles on May 27 and San Jose on June 3.※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
