“Detective K” stays atop box office chart for 3rd week

“Detective K: Secret of Virtuous Widow,” an 18th century Korean style detective story, remained on top of the weekend box office chart for the third straight time, according to the official website of the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS). The film, currently shown in 653 theaters nationwide, brought in 499,822 moviegoers during the weekend of from February 11 to 13 alone, accumulating over 3.5 million audiences in total since its opening in late January. The story is about a detective named K's (played by Kim Myung-min) adventure to resolve the mystery behind a serial murder under the special order from the king, accompanied by the dog-seller Seo-pil (Oh Dal-soo). They come across a mysterious woman named Han Gaekjoo (Han Ji-min) who seems to hold the key to the murders. Disney’s animation “Tangled,” which opened in 3D format last Thursday, took second spot on box office after attracting 279,475 viewers in 368 theaters. Starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi as voice actors, the movie which revisits the story of fairy tale Rapunzel, shows of a young girl with a magically long hair named Rapunzel (Moore) who runs away from a high tower she has been living all her life to experience the outside world and find out her true identity, assisted by the thief Flynn Rider (Levi). Universal Picture’s “Sanctum,” starring Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley and Christopher Baker came in third on the chart after selling 240,338 tickets for the past three days. “Sanctum,” which also premiered last Thursday in 3D at 361 theaters, is an adventure film about a five-member underwater cave diving team that gets trapped deep down the ocean’s floor while exploring an unknown cave in Papua New Guinea.
