Former Seoul City Councilman Kyung Kim Also Undergoes Warrant Review
The decision on whether to detain independent Assemblyman Sunwoo Kang, who is accused of receiving 100 million won from former Seoul City Councilman Kyung Kim, could be made as early as March 3, 2026.
At 2:30 p.m., Lee Jongrok, the judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a substantive warrant review for Assemblyman Kang, who is facing charges of violating the Political Funds Act and Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, as well as accepting bribes under the Criminal Act.
After the review ended at around 6:57 p.m., Assemblyman Kang did not answer reporters’ questions such as “What did you clarify during today’s review?” and boarded the escort vehicle in silence.

Assemblyman Kang is accused of receiving 100 million won in a shopping bag from former City Councilman Kim at a hotel in Yongsan-gu in January 2022, ahead of the local elections. It is reported that he argued for an investigation without detention, asserting that, as a sitting member of the National Assembly, there was no risk of flight or evasion.
Former City Councilman Kim, for whom a detention warrant was also requested, underwent a substantive warrant review in the same court at 10:00 a.m. that day.
The decision on whether to detain the two is expected to be made late in the evening of March 3 or in the early hours of March 4, 2026.
