Korea Defense Science High School was established by converting the Kimiwa Technical High School into a Meister High School model unique to Gangwon Province. Aiming to nurture talent in promising defense-related industries, the school is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and educational facilities and has officially begun operating its curriculum.

Students will receive systematic professional education through industry-academia cooperation with defense-related organizations and companies, as well as in cutting-edge practice labs. Depending on their major, students will acquire specialized skills through practical, work-based curricula in fields such as: development and programming of information and communication hardware and software; computer security; development of robotic mechanisms; development of industrial electronic hardware and software; operation and maintenance of small unmanned vehicles; and maintenance of aircraft electrical and electronic equipment.

In addition, all 48 incoming students will be accommodated in a newly built, state-of-the-art modular dormitory on campus. In 2026, the school plans to renovate the cafeteria to provide a more stable environment for educational activities.

Sungrae Kim, Director of Secondary Education, said, "Vocational high schools in Gangwon Province are being restructured around new industry fields to become leading vocational schools in Korea, attracting students from all over the country. We ask for continued community interest and support so that the Gangwon Province-type Meister high schools opening sequentially from 2027-Korea Tax and Finance High School, (tentatively named) Korea Artificial Intelligence High School, (tentatively named) Gangwon Forest Science High School, and (tentatively named) Gangwon Mobility High School-can also launch successfully. The Office of Education will spare no effort in providing administrative and financial support."
