Suwon Nambu Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province is strengthening its wildfire prevention activities.
The Suwon Nambu Fire Station has urged citizens to exercise special caution, noting that the risk of wildfires is increasing due to the recent dry weather and the growing number of people engaging in outdoor activities.
Spring wildfires are particularly dangerous because the combination of dry weather and strong winds means that even a small spark can easily lead to a large-scale wildfire. The main causes of wildfires include careless use of fire such as cooking by hikers, discarding cigarette butts, and burning agricultural by-products or trash in areas adjacent to forests, all of which become more prevalent as the number of visitors increases.
Going forward, Suwon Nambu Fire Station will implement a range of initiatives, including: wildfire prevention patrols using drones; on-site inspections of wildfire-prone areas by department heads; operation of a 'Wildfire Inspection Day' utilizing volunteer firefighters; and multifaceted wildfire prevention campaigns through the official website and social media channels.
Park Junghoon, head of Suwon Nambu Fire Station, emphasized, "Once a forest is damaged, it can take decades to restore, and large-scale wildfires can result in significant loss of life and property. Thorough prevention is therefore of utmost importance. Even a single careless act can threaten precious lives and forest resources, so the active cooperation of all citizens is essential."
