The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on March 4 that it has produced and distributed five types of safety materials tailored for construction sites.
The newly created resources include two types: the “Compilation of Repeatedly Pointed Out Cases in the Past Five Years” and the “Guidelines for Preparing and Managing Measurement of Earth Retaining Temporary Structure Construction Plans.” In addition, three existing resources-“Safety Management Guidelines for Construction Sites,” “Compilation of Outstanding Safety Cases in the Past Five Years,” and the “Safety Work Guidebook for Construction Stakeholders”-have been revised to reflect the latest laws and on-site examples.
In the course of producing and revising these materials, the city conducted a comprehensive review of construction safety-related laws, such as the Construction Technology Promotion Act, and incorporated in-depth advice from experts in each field, reflecting the unique characteristics of construction sites in Seoul. In particular, it conducted a comprehensive analysis of risk factors in infrastructure projects including subways, roads, and disaster prevention facilities, as well as urban excavation works, and included empirical and prevention-oriented management strategies.
Chunkeun Lim, Head of the Urban Infrastructure Headquarters at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, “These five guidebooks distributed this time will be of practical help to field practitioners in clearly fulfilling their legal obligations and standardizing safety management procedures. As they have been produced based on expert reviews and field experience, we expect them to serve as an opportunity to raise the level of construction safety in Seoul.”
