Seontae Kim Launches Personal YouTube Channel
Seontae Kim, who became known as "Chungju Man," has embarked on a new journey as an independent YouTuber.
On March 3, Kim launched a new personal YouTube channel titled "Seontae Kim." The channel's description reads, "Hello, this is Seontae Kim." Although no videos have been uploaded yet, the channel had already surpassed 5,000 subscribers as of March 3.
Through the channel, he also introduced his official Instagram account, which he previously operated during his "Chungju Man" days. Recently, he changed the account's ID from "Chungju Man" to his real name, "Seontae Kim."
Kim began his career as a 9th-grade civil servant in 2016 and, starting in 2019, led Chungju City’s official YouTube channel "ChungTV." He earned praise for promoting the city with content that broke away from typical civil servant stereotypes, featuring a sharp sense for the latest trends, memes, and a quirky, offbeat style. His work helped drive a shift in the promotional strategies of local governments, public institutions, and public enterprises. In recognition of these achievements, Kim was promoted to 6th grade in late 2023 after just over seven years in service, a "fast-track promotion" that drew attention. After news of his resignation surfaced, there were rumors of internal conflict and isolation within the organization; however, Kim denied these allegations, stating, "I made this decision after much consideration about achieving personal goals and taking on new challenges," and dismissed any reports of discord.
Kim expressed his intention to resign last month. Afterward, there was speculation that he might enter the entertainment industry or even pursue a career in politics. These rumors gained traction when it became known that he had met with an official from the presidential office.
However, Kim explained regarding his visit to the presidential office, "I was invited to Yongsan after being contacted, but there was no specific proposal." As for his future plans, he stated, "I plan to stay in Chungju and take on broadcasting or YouTube activities," and made it clear, "I will not enter politics. I am not interested in a political career."
