Business Agreement Signed with Korea Tourism Organization
Expectations High for Boosting Stay-Type Tourism through Corporate Collaboration
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province announced that, following the final selection of two islands, Geumodo and Nangdo, for the "Island-Corporate Win-Win Tourism Project" organized by the Korea Tourism Organization, it signed a business agreement with the Korea Tourism Organization on February 27 and will officially launch a pilot project for stay-type island tourism content.
This public project aims to develop and pilot stay-type tourism content by matching two to three companies, such as travel agencies and tourism ventures, with each island to jointly plan and operate programs. The goal is to enhance the competitiveness of island tourism content while establishing an operating model based on regional win-win cooperation.
On Geumodo and Nangdo, various programs have been designed to allow visitors to enjoy a range of experiences and consumption opportunities centered on stay-type tourism, such as outdoor activities utilizing natural resources, village-based experiences, workation and yacht programs, as well as trails, kayaking, and local farm parties.
A city official stated, "This selection serves as an opportunity to shift Yeosu's island tourism toward stay-type content through collaboration with private companies. We will increase visitor satisfaction and build a win-win model for shared growth between the region and businesses, based on the unique attractions of Geumodo and Nangdo."
Yeosu City plans to finalize company matching through consultation with the Korea Tourism Organization and refine the programs with the selected companies, gradually operating pilot programs in stages.
In particular, during the Island Expo period, linked tourism programs connecting Geumodo and Nangdo will be operated to naturally channel expo visitor demand into island tourism, allowing visitors to directly enjoy a variety of experiential content on the islands in addition to attending the expo.
Meanwhile, a total of eight representative islands nationwide were finally selected for the public project, including Yeosu (Geumodo and Nangdo), Hwaseong (Jebudo and Gukhwado), Boryeong (Wonsando), Tongyeong (Yonghodo and Sangdo), and Seogwipo (Gapado).
