Han Byungdo: "Greater Focus on Addressing State Affairs and Public Welfare Bills"
Request to Convene Plenary Sessions on March 12, 19, and 26
Special Committee on U.S. Investment to Resume on the 4th... Bill Deliberation Set for the 9th
The Democratic Party of Korea has announced that it will continue its legislative drive for public welfare and reform during the provisional National Assembly session in March. The party plans to hold plenary sessions every Thursday, aiming to pass as many bills as possible that have been processed by each standing committee.
Han Byungdo, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated at the floor countermeasure meeting held at the National Assembly on March 3, 2026, "The Democratic Party’s legislative journey for public welfare and reform will continue in March," adding, "We will maintain an emergency system for public welfare and reform legislation and focus even more on addressing state affairs and public welfare bills."

The Democratic Party of Korea plans to request that National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik convene plenary sessions on the 12th, 19th, and 26th of this month. However, since the 26th may be difficult due to Speaker Woo's schedule, the party explained that in such a case, they will hold a session on March 31 to continue processing bills. Floor spokesperson Moon Geumjoo added that the agenda for the plenary session on the 12th is still being finalized.
Spokesperson Moon drew a line regarding the proposal to abolish the National Court Administration as the second phase of judicial reform, stating, "That is an individual opinion from the Legislation and Judiciary Committee," and clarified, "There have not been any concrete discussions on the matter yet."
The Special Act on U.S. Investment is also scheduled to be handled at the special committee’s general meeting on March 9. To this end, a practical subcommittee for the bill will begin operating from the 4th.
Spokesperson Moon said, "Although it is late, I believe many people will feel relieved that the People Power Party has finally scheduled the special committee on U.S. investment." He added, "However, as the People Power Party's actions have been inconsistent and unpredictable, there are concerns, but from the 4th we have decided to finalize the bill’s introduction, the formation of the subcommittee, and its schedule."
The party’s official body, the "Special Committee for Investigating Fabricated Prosecutions by the Yoon Suk Yeol Administration and Pushing for the Cancellation of Indictments," plans to hold its second general meeting on March 5 to discuss agenda items for the parliamentary investigation. The goal is to report the request for a parliamentary investigation at the plenary session as early as the 12th.
Regarding the Daegu-Gyeongbuk and Daejeon-Chungnam Integration Special Act, floor leader Han criticized the People Power Party. He said, "It was none other than the People Power Party that blocked the bill from being brought to the plenary session by switching between supporting and opposing it," and continued, "As for the Daejeon-Chungnam integration, it was initially proposed by the People Power Party, but now their local leaders and councils are reversing their stance and obstructing the process." Han further emphasized, "Daegu-Gyeongbuk and Daejeon-Chungnam must proceed with integration. If we miss this golden opportunity, I make it clear that all the responsibility lies with the People Power Party."
