On March 3, Incheon City announced that it has initiated a “Pre-Feasibility Study Response Research Service for the Incheon Line 1 Songdo Section 8 Extension Project” to expand urban rail infrastructure in the Section 8 area of Songdo International City.
This research service aims to establish a professional response strategy to successfully pass the pre-feasibility study currently being conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Development Institute (KDI). Through this project, the city plans to secure objective feasibility data and maximize logical persuasiveness during the review process.
DoHwa Engineering, which is responsible for the project, will leverage its experience in railway design to meticulously supplement the economic feasibility (B/C) analysis and technical feasibility. Meanwhile, the Incheon Institute will develop the core logic needed for the policy feasibility (AHP) evaluation, focusing on regional characteristics and local transportation demand.
The Incheon Line 1 Songdo Section 8 extension project involves an investment of approximately 400 billion won to extend the line by 1.74 kilometers from the current terminus at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park Station to Misong Middle School, adding two new stations.
The city considers the connection of urban rail to Section 8 of Songdo, which is currently home to more than 50,000 residents, to be an urgent matter.
An official from Incheon City stated, “Through this research service, we will thoroughly prepare to ensure that the Songdo Section 8 extension project successfully passes the pre-feasibility study.”
