Han: "No Issue in Accompanying Like-Minded Individuals"
The People Power Party’s district association heads who are outside the National Assembly have filed an ethics complaint against eight pro-Han Donghoon figures who accompanied former leader Han Donghoon during his visit to Daegu, accusing them of “undermining party discipline and damaging the honor of party members.”
According to political sources on March 3, district association heads outside the National Assembly, including Lee Sangkyu, head of the People Power Party’s Seongbuk-eul district in Seoul, submitted a disciplinary referral request containing these allegations to the chairperson of the party’s Central Ethics Committee.
The subjects of the disciplinary request are seven National Assembly members-Park Junghoon, Bae Hyunjin, Woo Jaejun, Jung Sungguk, Kim Yeji, Jin Jongoh, and Ahn Sanghoon-as well as Kim Kyungjin, head of the Dongdaemun-eul district association, making a total of eight individuals.

Chairman Lee stated, “At a time when the party is facing an unprecedented humiliation and crisis since its founding, these individuals ignored the desperate struggle of their colleagues and sought to display political strength alongside an expelled figure. This is a clear case for ‘immediate expulsion,’ as it undermines party discipline and damages the honor of party members.”
The reason for disciplinary action cited by Chairman Lee is that these individuals accompanied former leader Han Donghoon on his visit to Seomun Market in Daegu. At that time, the People Power Party was conducting a parliamentary filibuster against the so-called ‘Three Judiciary Destruction Laws,’ including the crime of legal distortion, and a joint prosecutors-police investigation team was conducting a search and seizure at the party’s central headquarters.
Chairman Lee argued that these members violated ethical regulations, such as supporting another candidate, as stipulated in the party’s constitution and rules. He remarked, “Displaying political strength alongside an expelled figure in the tragic situation of the party headquarters being raided is an act of betrayal that drives a wedge into the hearts of party members and tarnishes the party’s honor.”
Regarding these allegations, former leader Han Donghoon appeared on CBS Radio’s “Park Sungtae’s News Show,” stating, “Although I was unfairly expelled, I made a firm promise to return to the People Power Party. Is it really such a big problem for like-minded people to visit a market together in this situation?”
As for the pro-leadership faction members attacking the pro-Han group, he commented, “It is strange that people in biased bodies like the Ethics Committee and the Party Affairs Audit Committee repeatedly attempt to purge the pro-Han group, just like the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution or those who wore armbands during the Korean War.”
