Uijeongbu City Ramps Up Efforts to Secure National Funding and Ease Regulations
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province held a policy consultation meeting with Congresswoman Park Ji-hye (Uijeongbu Gap) in the City Council Hall at City Hall on February 27, where they had an in-depth discussion on local issues.

During the meeting, the participants focused on 18 key local issues, including: the status of projects eligible for special allocation tax, the promotion of Uijeongbu’s designation as a Free Economic Zone, support for the environmental improvement project under the elevated Gyeongwon Line, support for the urban park remodeling project, support for the Nokyang Leisure Sports Park development project, and the petition for the extension of Subway Line 8 to Uijeongbu.
In particular, the city discussed the allocation of industrial volume for the utilization of returned U.S. military bases such as Camp Jackson. Uijeongbu City requested active cooperation from the national and Gyeonggi provincial governments, emphasizing that essential administrative procedures overlap with metropolitan area regulations.
Additionally, the city shared progress on efforts to extend Subway Line 8 and to reflect the GTX-G and GTX-F lines, asking for proactive cooperation to improve public transportation accessibility for local residents.
The policy consultation was organized to effectively communicate Uijeongbu City’s local issues to the central government and to seek practical solutions. The meeting was attended by Congresswoman Park Ji-hye, Gyeonggi Provincial Assemblyman Lee Young-bong, Uijeongbu City Council members Choi Jeong-hee, Kang Sun-young, and Jeong Jin-ho, as well as the mayor and key department heads from the city.
Congresswoman Park Ji-hye stated, "I will do my utmost to provide multifaceted support, including legislation and budgetary measures, to help Uijeongbu City overcome regulatory and institutional limitations."
An official from Uijeongbu City commented, "In order to ensure the smooth implementation of Uijeongbu's key projects, close cooperation and active communication between the party and government are more necessary than ever. We will continue to work together so that the issues discussed today can lead to tangible results."
