Commemorative Ceremony Held at COEX on March 3
"Gratitude to the People Who Supported the National Economy"
Orders and Medals Awarded to Ahn Jaeil, CEO of SungKwang Bend, and Others
On March 3, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yooncheol stated, "We will radically improve the preferential treatment system for exemplary taxpayers so that those who have made significant contributions to national finances can receive the respect and recognition they deserve from society."
Deputy Prime Minister Koo attended the ceremony for the 60th Taxpayers' Day held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and remarked in his speech, "Exemplary taxpayers who have steadfastly supported the national economy by faithfully paying their taxes are the true patriots of our time," adding the aforementioned statement.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo also emphasized, "We must resolutely break away from past practices that disguised tax evasion as clever tax-saving or tacitly condoned such behavior," and promised, "We will ensure that every precious won of tax revenue is used only where it is genuinely needed and not wasted in any way."
To tax officials, Deputy Prime Minister Koo said, "No matter how good a policy is, if it is not truly felt by the people, it is meaningless. I urge you to pay closer attention on the ground and practice tax administration that is considerate of the public." To the public, he added, "Not a single won of your precious tax payments will be wasted. We will uphold your pride in the belief that 'faithful tax payment is the highest form of patriotism.'"
About 1,000 people attended the ceremony, including exemplary taxpayers, recipients of orders and decorations and their families, officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the National Tax Service, and the Korea Customs Service. This year, a total of 569 individuals were honored for their contributions to exemplary tax payment and cooperation with tax administration.
Orders of Merit were awarded to nine individuals, including Ahn Jaeil, CEO of SungKwang Bend Co., Ltd.; the Presidential Commendation was awarded to 23 individuals, including Yoon Nara, CEO of TJ Media Co., Ltd.; Medals of Merit were awarded to twelve individuals, including Kim Hanjeong, CEO of Gyeongwoo Electric Co., Ltd.; the Prime Minister’s Commendation was awarded to 25 individuals, including Shin Mijin, producer at Korean Broadcasting System (KBS); and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance’s Commendation was awarded to 500 individuals, including Park Cheonoh, CEO of PNP Secure Co., Ltd.
In addition, five companies, including NH Investment & Securities Co., Ltd., were awarded the Tower of High Tax Payment in recognition of their significant contributions to national finances through large tax payments.
