To be built with a total floor area of 15,980 square meters, scheduled for completion in 2029
Will serve as a bio-sector accreditation facility and gene therapy research platform

The research institute, which will be built on Block 1-2 of the research land in the Baegot District of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, will have a total floor area of 15,980 square meters. It will be equipped with a nationally certified bio-sector accreditation facility and a gene therapy research platform. The project will involve an investment of 125 billion won.
Previously, KTR signed a land purchase agreement in August and obtained a building permit last month.
Notably, this research institute is the first to be established since the Baegot District area was designated as a national strategic advanced industry 'Bio Specialized Complex' in June of last year. The institute is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2029.
The institute will house a 'Bio-Pharmaceutical Production Support Center' and a 'Bio-Based Technology Support Center,' both of which will meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Approximately 100 specialists will be stationed here to carry out core research work in advanced bio fields, including gene therapy research.
KTR expects the establishment of the institute to generate an economic impact of approximately 66.4 billion won and provide annual corporate support benefits worth 8.5 billion won.
Lim Byeongtaek, Mayor of Siheung, stated, "KTR's Siheung Biomedical Research Institute will serve as a key hub supporting Korea's ambitions to become a global leader in medical artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, and bio-health. We will continue our efforts to ensure that Siheung emerges as a city driving the nation's future industries."
