'Smart Manufacturing Innovation Technology Development Project (R&D) Performance Sharing Event' Held
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that, together with the Ministry of Science and ICT, it held a performance-sharing event at the Korea Science and Technology Center on November 26 to share the achievements of the 'Smart Manufacturing Innovation Technology Development' project, which is being promoted to enhance the smart manufacturing capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises, and to spread these achievements to manufacturing sites.
This event was held as part of the 'Smart Manufacturing Innovation Technology Development Project (R&D)', a large-scale inter-ministerial collaboration between the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Science and ICT. The project, with a total budget of approximately 421.3 billion KRW over five years from 2022 to 2026, supports three strategic areas to advance smart manufacturing innovation and enhance the competitiveness of smart factory solution providers.
In particular, as the advanced manufacturing and flexible production sectors are set to conclude at the end of this year, outstanding R&D outcomes are anticipated. Accordingly, an awards and encouragement ceremony was held for SMEs and research institutions with excellent project results.
During the presentation of best practices in the advanced manufacturing sector, Cho Kichang, CEO of Dworld, introduced achievements such as establishing a foundation for digital transformation in inspection processes and developing a deep learning-based vision inspection system for textile defects, thereby securing global competitiveness. In addition, Son Jiyeon, Director at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, presented the development of technology that integrates AI and digital twin into quality inspections, which were previously performed visually and manually, thereby improving accuracy and enabling real-time analysis of process load rates and overall factory productivity through simulations.
In the flexible production sector, Byunghee Kim, CEO of VMS Solutions, shared know-how from successful R&D projects, including the development and commercialization of cloud-based, customized APS service technology for SMEs and the development of APS software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises.
In the afternoon, companies participating in smart manufacturing R&D projects shared their experiences and exchanged technologies to promote commercialization, including expert consulting and technical exchanges among projects.
At the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Merit Awards Ceremony, a total of 12 awards were presented: four Minister of SMEs and Startups Awards, two Minister of Science and ICT Awards, four Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Team Leader Awards, and two President of the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation Awards, recognizing companies and research institutions that contributed to the 'advanced manufacturing' and 'flexible production' sectors.
Kwon Soonjae, Director of Regional Enterprise Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "We have continuously promoted projects to expand the use of AI and data in domestic manufacturing sites, and we will continue to develop concrete support measures, including follow-up R&D and non-R&D initiatives, to serve as a catalyst for SMEs to secure competitiveness in the era of AI-driven transformation."
