Promoting Mussels, the Signature Local Seafood
Aiming to Boost Fishermen’s Income and Revitalize the Local Economy
Changwon City, a special city in South Gyeongsang Province, announced on the 16th that the 3rd Changwon Mussel Festival, hosted and organized by the Masan Fisheries Cooperative, was successfully concluded. The festival aimed to widely promote the excellence and safety of mussels, a representative seafood product of the Masan area, as well as to increase fishermen’s income and revitalize the local economy.
The festival, held on the 15th at the 3·15 Marine Nuri Park, featured a variety of programs that delighted citizens and tourists alike, including a performance by the Changwon LG Sakers cheerleaders, the Honghabi Song Contest, a food market, a mussel-shelling competition, and a congratulatory performance by invited singers.
In addition, the Masan Fisheries Cooperative organized various side events to promote the excellence of local seafood, boost consumption, and increase fishermen’s income. These included an SNS comment event, a free seafood tasting event in collaboration with Masan University, a seafood discount sale, and hands-on experiences such as Honghabi tattoos and color bead crafts.
Hong Seongho, head of the Fisheries Division, stated, "Through this festival, we hope to widely promote the excellence and safety of our local seafood and contribute to revitalizing seafood consumption. We encourage everyone to taste mussels, the signature seafood of Masan, and to make greater use of our region’s seafood products."
