On November 13, the National Innovation Party announced its plans to push for the introduction of the "Life Partnership Act," which would recognize individuals as family members even if they are not related by blood or marriage.
On this day at the National Assembly, the National Innovation Party unveiled its "New Party Vision," which includes these measures.
Seowangjin, Acting Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee and Floor Leader, stated, "We must put an end to ignoring citizens left in blind spots and treating their real-life suffering as if it does not exist." He urged, "We need to confidently bring the lives of those left in the domains of custom, prejudice, and violence into the realm of law and institutional protection."
The Life Partnership Act is centered on institutionally guaranteeing diversity in family structures.
Floor Leader Seo said, "The current concept of family, recognized only through marriage and blood relations, is outdated and excludes non-marital, cohabiting, and caregiving communities from the system." He added, "The state must respect and protect diverse ways of life."
The party also plans to pursue gender equality and human rights agendas, including a comprehensive anti-discrimination law to prevent discrimination based on gender, disability, or sexual orientation. Other proposed measures include legislating abortion rights following the Constitutional Court's decision of unconstitutionality on abortion laws, introducing a non-consensual rape law that defines sex without consent as rape, enacting a law to punish dating violence, and implementing a gender pay gap disclosure system to make public the status of gender-based wage differences.
