Donghae City to Hold Finale of 'Bulgeumjeonpa Songjeong' Season 1 on November 14
"Recalling Memories of the Past"... Alleyways Warmed by 'Bulgeumjeonpa'
Donghae City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Shim Kyueon) announced on November 13 that it will hold the final event of Season 1 of 'Bulgeumjeonpa Songjeong,' a program promoted as part of the Songjeong District Urban Regeneration Software Project, on November 14 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Songjeong Market area.
At this event, dishes highlighting the unique flavor of 'meoktae'-a dried pollack brought in through Donghae Mukho Port-will be sold at the venue, including 'Meoktae Kalguksu' (noodle soup with meoktae) and fish cakes made with broth using meoktae heads.
'Bulgeumjeonpa Songjeong' is an ongoing initiative that introduces new ideas at each session, based on Songjeong District’s unique resources such as Donghae Port, Donghae Station, the Navy’s 1st Fleet, and the revitalization of the Songjeong Market alley commercial district.
The first session of Bulgeumjeonpa was organized by the Songjeong District Urban Regeneration Residents’ Council and featured dishes such as seasoned whelk, made with whelk brought in from Donghae Mukho Port, and 'Modumjeon' (assorted Korean pancakes) symbolizing harmony. The second session offered a citizen-participation 'jeon-making experience' using seasonal ingredients sold at Songjeong Market.
The third session received an enthusiastic response from both merchants and visitors by featuring steamed buns and dumplings, which were famous alleyway foods during the area’s heyday.
This fourth session serves as the finale of Season 1, with the event’s structure and programs reorganized based on previous operational experiences.
In addition to Meoktae Kalguksu and meoktae fish cakes, the event will feature 'Yonggwangno Duruchigi,' a modern reinterpretation of Songjeong’s industrial and everyday culture; 'Bulgeumpajeon,' a humorous take on the event’s name; and 'Steamed Buns & Dumplings,' snacks that were beloved in the Songjeong alleyways of the past. The venue will be arranged to evoke warmth and nostalgia.
In particular, to symbolically highlight the significance of the 'fourth session,' a half-price discount event for Duruchigi will be held for seven people whose ticket numbers contain the number '4,' creating a special on-site atmosphere to mark the conclusion of Season 1.
Jung Hayoun, Head of the Urban Maintenance Division, stated, "The Songjeong Market alley, where the event will be held, was once a beloved spot for foods like steamed buns and dumplings, and a place filled with after-work memories for local office workers." He added that, based on the emotional and historical context of the Songjeong area, various urban regeneration programs will be pursued going forward.
