On November 13, Incheon Yeonsu District announced plans to deploy public buses in areas with limited access to public transportation, such as Songdo-dong, and to add 413 public parking spaces in the original downtown area, where parking shortages are severe.
The district unveiled the “Public Bus and Transportation Infrastructure Improvement Project” and will hold community briefings from November 12 to 14 to gather residents’ feedback.
Starting in February next year, the district plans to pilot three public bus routes centered on Songdo-dong. The buses will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., coinciding with residents’ commuting and school hours, and the fare system will be the same as that of Incheon’s branch line buses.
In particular, public buses will be concentrated in Songdo-dong during rush hours, while outside of those times, they will be deployed in Dongchun-dong and Okryeon-dong to enhance transportation convenience for residents. To facilitate this, the district will invest 2 billion won to introduce six eco-friendly medium-sized electric buses and install electric charging stations.
A Yeonsu District official stated, “We plan to finalize the bus routes after collecting a wide range of opinions through the community briefings,” adding, “We expect that the operation of public buses will improve transportation convenience for residents of Songdo 6 and 8 Districts, which have long been considered public transportation blind spots.”
Additionally, to address chronic parking shortages in the original downtown area, the district will secure 413 additional parking spaces at the Yeonsu Station South Public Parking Lot (165 spaces), Songdo Station Samgeori Public Parking Lot (118 spaces), and Matgoeul-gil Parking Tower (130 spaces).
Furthermore, the district will strengthen enforcement against the illegal parking of shared electric scooters and promote the installation of children’s traffic safety flags, aiming to create a safer and more convenient pedestrian environment.
