Naver Map Introduces Korea's Hotspots to Foreign Tourists with Second 'BE LOCAL' Campaign

Discount Coupons for Restaurants and Cafes Offered to Foreign Tourists

Naver announced on the 17th that it will run the 'BE LOCAL' campaign, introducing Korea's hot places to foreign tourists visiting Korea, until December 15. This campaign is being conducted in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization.

The BE LOCAL campaign introduces a variety of locations such as restaurants, cafes, shopping venues, and multi-cultural spaces to foreign tourists through Naver Map. Users who have set the Naver Map app language to a foreign language can access the 'BE LOCAL' tab at the top of the app to receive recommendations for the most saved places by Korean users in their 20s and 30s, local hotspots, and century-old establishments.

Through the second BE LOCAL campaign, Naver and the Korea Tourism Organization will provide discount coupons that can be used at restaurants, cafes, and cultural spaces. They will also support discounts for express bus and rental car services. The campaign area will expand beyond Seoul to include Busan and Gyeongju, where international events will be held within the year.

The first BE LOCAL campaign, held in the first half of this year, introduced popular hotspots in Seoul such as Myeongdong, Seongsu, Itaewon, and Hannam-dong.

Choi Seungrak, head of Naver Map services, said, "Through the BE LOCAL campaign, we aim to help foreign users enjoy domestic travel more like locals, not only by visiting famous tourist attractions but also by exploring emerging hotspots and activities."

Yang Kyungsoo, acting head of the Tourism Industry Division at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, "Through this campaign, we can effectively introduce tourism content that Koreans genuinely prefer and provide tangible benefits to foreign tourists, thereby increasing satisfaction with travel to Korea."

Meanwhile, since launching its multilingual (English, Chinese, Japanese) map in 2018, Naver has been enhancing features for foreign users. Last year, it expanded multilingual support to include Korean text reviews and place review filters, and in June, it updated its services to allow foreign users to make reservations, place orders, and complete payments through Naver.
