Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on the 12th that it has been selected as an outstanding institution in the government-wide "2025 Disaster Response Safe Korea Training" evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The Disaster Response Safe Korea Training is a nationwide government-wide drill involving 336 institutions. The evaluation is based on 17 indicators, covering the entire process from planning and design to implementation and feedback. Outstanding institutions are selected through pre-training, on-site, and post-training evaluations, which assess training planning and design, discussion and execution frameworks, and the overall appropriateness of the drill.

The training conducted on April 29 simulated a complex disaster scenario involving "earthquakes, collapses, and fires at multi-use facilities." It was carried out as an integrated and interconnected drill, simultaneously conducting a "disaster situation room discussion exercise" and an "on-site drill at Goyang Starfield" to address potential complex disaster situations at multi-use facilities.

In particular, the discussion exercise was led by Mayor Lee Donghwan and included situation assessments and countermeasure meetings. The on-site drill was directed by Second Deputy Mayor Lee Junghwa, who oversaw the establishment and operation of the Integrated Support Headquarters and managed on-site response and recovery activities. The real-time connection with the situation room further enhanced the completeness of the training.

This year, the city focused on strengthening its initial response capabilities to complex disasters and preventing the spread of damage in the early stages. The disaster response system was reviewed through collaboration with 16 related organizations and groups centered around the city, and more than 200 citizens participated, further reinforcing preparedness for complex disasters and initial response capabilities.

In June, the city was also selected as an outstanding institution for the second consecutive year in the "Disaster Management Evaluation" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. With this third consecutive recognition in the Disaster Response Safe Korea Training, Goyang Special City continues to be acknowledged for its achievements throughout the entire disaster response process, solidifying its status as a model city for safety administration.

Mayor Lee Donghwan stated, "Disasters can occur anytime and anywhere, so we will continue to strengthen our response systems and focus all our efforts on protecting the lives and safety of our citizens." He emphasized, "We will continue to make Goyang Special City a leading safe city representing the Republic of Korea."
