The Chungnam Office of Education is being recognized for its ongoing efforts to support students suffering from intractable diseases by providing financial aid, thereby simultaneously ensuring students' rights to health and education.
Recently, after consultations with the Intractable Disease Student Support Committee, the Chungnam Office of Education selected 160 students in the province who are in need of assistance due to intractable diseases, providing each with 2.5 million won, for a total of 400 million won in donations and encouragement.
The intractable disease student support initiative began in 2001, and over the past five years alone, a total of 1.9 billion won has been delivered to 767 students with intractable diseases who required assistance.
The funds for this support are raised through the Chungnam Education Love Card endowment and collaborative projects with the educational treasury. Recipients are selected based on a comprehensive assessment of their economic circumstances and the severity of their conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, pediatric diabetes, and rare or intractable diseases that require ongoing treatment.
Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol stated, "We will continue to expand this program so that students battling intractable diseases and their families do not lose hope or courage and can enjoy a healthy school life."
