The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority will hold a naming contest for the Third Yeonryuk Bridge, which is scheduled to open at the end of this year. The contest will run from May 21 to June 3, and proposals can be submitted through the Incheon City website.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to review neutral names submitted by Incheon citizens and select two candidate names. A neutral name refers to a designation that excludes place names which could cause disputes by applying elements specific to only one local government, and instead reflects features commonly found in both regions.
The evaluation criteria include whether the name embodies the unique characteristics and identity shared by Jung-gu and Seo-gu? the two districts connected by the Third Yeonryuk Bridge? and whether it reflects Incheon's future vision. The first and second place winners will receive Incheon Sarang gift certificates worth 500,000 won and 300,000 won, respectively. Additionally, 50 participants will be randomly selected to receive a 10,000 won Incheon Sarang gift certificate each.
The final name for the Third Yeonryuk Bridge will be selected by the Incheon City Naming Committee after deliberation. The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to request the committee to review a total of six candidate names in the second half of the year: two names previously submitted by each of Jung-gu and Seo-gu, as well as two neutral names selected through the contest.
The Third Yeonryuk Bridge, which will connect Yeongjong International City in Jung-gu and Cheongna International City in Seo-gu, is being constructed at a total cost of 770.9 billion won. The bridge will be 4.68 kilometers long and 30 meters wide, with six lanes for two-way traffic. It is designed as an experiential and tourism-oriented bridge, featuring a 180-meter-high main pylon observatory?the highest in the world?and a waterfront promenade. The current construction progress stands at approximately 80%.
