Opposition Parties Submit Impeachment Motion Against Acting Prime Minister Choi
Conservative Presidential Hopefuls United in Criticism
Conservative presidential hopefuls on the 21st collectively criticized the five opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea, which proposed the impeachment motion against Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance.
Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, posted on social media (SNS) that "they are trying to completely ruin the country," and sarcastically asked, "If all the ministers are impeached one by one like this, will the last remaining Minister of SMEs and Startups become the acting prime minister?" Comparing the situation to the American drama Designated Survivor, he pointed out, "In the drama, only one designated survivor remains due to a terrorist attack on the parliament building, and Lee Jae-myung is also plotting a rebellion by exploiting a parliamentary attack."
Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, also joined the criticism via SNS, saying, "Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, is undoubtedly the 'most dangerous person'." He accused Lee of having "no regard for the lives of the people," adding, "He threatened Acting Prime Minister Choi like a gangster and now intends to tie his hands and feet with impeachment."
Ahn Cheol-soo, member of the People Power Party, expressed concern that if Acting Prime Minister Choi is impeached, there will be no one to take responsibility for the economy and people's livelihoods. Ahn said, "The world is entering a huge upheaval with the launch of Trump's second term, but our country is missing the golden hour of diplomacy without a president or prime minister," condemning, "The impeachment of Acting Prime Minister Choi is an act of national destruction."
Yoo Seung-min, former member of the People Power Party, directly attacked, saying, "If these people take power, it is obvious that they will carry out bloodier revenge than the political retaliation of the Moon Jae-in administration," and added, "Regardless of the economy and people's livelihoods, they will spend five years in a frenzy of violent political purges."
On the same day, the five opposition parties (Democratic Party, Party for National Innovation, Progressive Party, Basic Income Party, and Social Democratic Party) proposed the impeachment motion against Acting Prime Minister Choi. This is the 30th impeachment motion proposed since the launch of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, led by the Democratic Party.
