Yangsan City announced that on the 5th, it held the inaugural (founders’) general meeting of the Yangsan Cultural Foundation at the city hall’s main conference room.

At the inaugural meeting, a total of 10 executives, including Chairman Na Dong-yeon and CEO Son Young-ok, participated as founders. By holding this general meeting, Yangsan City presented a major milestone for the cultural foundation, which is scheduled to officially launch in July.

The Yangsan Cultural Foundation is set to launch with the Culture and Arts Joint Creation Center located on Hakdong-gil in Yangsan City as its headquarters.

The city confirmed Son Young-ok, Chairperson of the Gyeongnam branch of the Korea Calligraphy Association, as CEO through an open recruitment in February this year, along with eight directors and two auditors. At the inaugural meeting, attended by Foundation Chairman and Mayor Na Dong-yeon, the CEO, directors, and auditors, agenda items for establishing the foundation were deliberated.

The general meeting’s agenda included nine items: adoption of the establishment purpose statement, articles of incorporation, appointment of executives, selection of the main office, property contribution details, organization and staff quota (draft), enactment of regulations, and others, which were resolved after gathering opinions from the founders.

To establish the cultural foundation, the city previously completed a feasibility analysis and basic plan study for the establishment of the Yangsan Cultural Foundation in May 2021, and enacted an ordinance concerning the establishment and operation of the Yangsan Cultural Foundation in December 2022, thereby laying the institutional groundwork. After the Yangsan City Council approved the funding agreement in December 2024, the foundation’s establishment has been actively pursued since January this year.

After completing the establishment of the foundation corporation in April, the city plans to conduct staff recruitment and appointment procedures by June, aiming to officially launch the cultural foundation in July with an organization of 27 members across 2 bureaus and 3 teams.

The Yangsan Cultural Foundation is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of culture and arts in Yangsan City. It will be responsible for operating and managing cultural facilities such as the Yangsan Culture and Arts Center, Ssangbyeokru Art Hall, and the Yangsan City Culture and Arts Joint Creation Center, as well as organizing various cultural and artistic events in Yangsan City.

In particular, through the progressive promotion of representative cultural and arts festivals of Yangsan City, such as the Yangsan Sapryang Cultural Festival and the Ungsang Hoe Night Festival, the foundation plans to invigorate both the local cultural arts community and the everyday economy.

Mayor Na Dong-yeon stated, “I believe culture enriches our lives and is a great force that breathes vitality into the region,” adding, “I expect the Yangsan Cultural Foundation to play an important role in communicating and cooperating with citizens, creating a dignified city where everyone can enjoy high-quality culture in their daily lives.”
