"Lee Jae-myung Struggles to Delay Trial"
"Judiciary Urged to Expedite Lee Jae-myung's 2nd Trial"
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "There is exactly one person in this world who cannot even utter equality before the law, and that is Lee Jae-myung." This can be interpreted as meaning that if Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, claims judicial equality, he should also show the same stance regarding his own judicial risks.
At the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the 6th, Floor Leader Kwon stated, "On the 3rd, Lee pressured the presidential investigation while saying that the law is equal for everyone." He added, "Lee is facing five trials with eight cases and twelve charges," criticizing, "His very existence is like a textbook example of the Criminal Procedure Act."
He continued, "Lee is making every effort to delay the trials," emphasizing, "The first trial of the Public Official Election Act, which should have ended within six months, took as long as two years and two months, and he refused to receive the notice of lawsuit record receipt by claiming unknown address and absence at the door."
Floor Leader Kwon pointed out, "The leader of a public party played hide-and-seek with the judiciary," and added, "He even did not appoint a lawyer, leading the court to decide to appoint a public defender. This is a person who once assembled a luxurious legal team of former high-ranking officials for his own trial, now resorting to such shabby acts to delay the trial."
He mentioned former lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang, former lawmaker Cho Kuk, and Moon Da-hye, daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, saying, "Democratic Party figures themselves were exceptions before the law and enjoyed privileges for delayed justice." He added, "The clock of the judiciary must tick fairly for everyone," and "The judiciary also has the duty to correct the national turmoil. I hope the second trial of Lee’s Public Official Election Act case proceeds swiftly."
