Busan Urban Corporation Wins Two Awards at Busan City Public Design Contest

Busan Metropolitan City Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) announced on the 14th that at the '2024 Busan City Public Design Contest' held on the 8th, two bridge design projects within the Osiria Tourism Complex, which BMC is currently developing (Dangsa Bridge and pedestrian overpass), won the Bronze Prize and an Honorable Mention, respectively.

The '2024 Busan City Public Design Contest' was held to create innovative urban spaces and universal designs that make the city a happier place for everyone, aiming to lead Busan’s leap as a global hub city through outstanding public facility designs.

The 'Songjeongcheon Bridge (Dangsa Bridge) Design,' which won the Bronze Prize, was developed in response to the results of a traffic impact assessment review for the tourism complex, requiring the reconstruction of the existing bridge (width = 8m, length = 13m) to a new bridge (width = 12m, length = 47m) due to the construction of a new road. During the design phase, an advisory committee of experts in landscape and design was formed, and after several meetings, a design inspired by a soaring seagull was selected to harmonize with the tourism complex and surrounding environment. This facility is currently under construction by BMC and is scheduled for completion in April next year.

The 'Osiria Pedestrian Overpass Design,' which received an Honorable Mention, is a symbolic gateway installed on the main access road to the tourism complex. The overpass measures 6.5 to 10 meters in width and 121 meters in length, and was designed to embody the dynamic image of waves, reflecting the surrounding landscape and the symbolism of the marine tourism complex. Construction of this overpass was completed last August, directly connecting major anchor facilities within the complex, such as the theme park and the National Busan Science Museum, providing convenient pedestrian access for visitors.

BMC expects that the improvement of public facility designs, such as the Songjeongcheon Dangsa Bridge and the Osiria Pedestrian Overpass within the complex, will attract more tourists and enhance the promotion of the tourism complex.
