"'Quiet Exit' on KakaoTalk Not Working for Me? Try This"

You Can Leave Group Chats Without Notifications
Update to the Latest Version and Adjust Settings Separately

KakaoTalk has added a 'Quiet Exit' feature that allows users to leave group chat rooms discreetly. However, this feature is still in the experimental stage and is only available to users who have updated to the latest version of the KakaoTalk messenger application (app).

If you are unsure whether your KakaoTalk on your phone is the latest version, tap 'Settings' (the gear icon at the top of the screen), then go to 'App Management' at the bottom. Here, you can check if you have the latest version, and if not, you can choose to update.

After updating to the latest KakaoTalk version, go back to 'Settings' in KakaoTalk and tap 'Laboratory'.

The Laboratory is an option to test new features of KakaoTalk in advance. Before officially launching a service, KakaoTalk goes through a Laboratory phase for a certain period to check feature stability and user feedback. The Laboratory is only available in the latest KakaoTalk version, and currently, the 'Quiet Exit' feature is one of the unofficial features registered in the Laboratory.

When you enter the 'Laboratory', you can activate the 'Use Laboratory' button. Once the Laboratory is activated, you will be able to press the 'Quiet Exit' button in group chat rooms with three or more participants.

If you use the PC version of KakaoTalk, click the gear icon at the bottom left of the app, then go to 'Settings' - 'About' to update the app to the latest version. After updating, you will need to log in again, and then you can go back to 'Settings' and enter 'Laboratory'. Like on mobile, there is a 'Use Laboratory' option here as well, which you can check to enable the feature.

In existing KakaoTalk group chat rooms, when a user leaves, a notification message saying 'XXX has left' appears. Because of this, some users experienced inconvenience as they could not leave group chats discreetly when they missed the right timing. However, if you press the Quiet Exit button and leave the chat room, you can exit quietly without such notification messages.

This feature is part of Kakao Group’s ongoing 'Ktalk Easy' project this year. Ktalk Easy focuses on reducing conversation stress for KakaoTalk users and improving convenience in daily life.

The core goal is to add new features and improve usability so that anyone can use KakaoTalk without burden. Starting with Quiet Exit, KakaoTalk plans to continuously update various features throughout the year to relieve user stress.

Hong Eun-taek, CEO of Kakao, explained the reason for introducing the feature: "KakaoTalk has grown with the love of many people, with the number of messages sent over the past 10 years reaching 7.6 trillion. However, as the volume of conversations, the purposes of communication, and the diversity of relationships in conversations have exploded, we understand that user inconvenience and burden have also increased."

He added, "We will continue to listen to user feedback and reflect various improvements to enhance user satisfaction and convenience."
