In brief
Da-jin (Ku Hye-sun) who is not a quitter, is a co-pilot. She works hard at making a living although she lost her mother from an accident she got into while in a plane her pilot father was flying but she constantly clashes with the youngest Boeing 747 pilot Yoon-sung (Ji Jin-hee) and is not on good terms with Korea's No. 1 controller Dong-soo (Lee Chun-hee) either. But Yoon-sung, who was trusted by Da-jin's father and Ji-won (Yoo Sun), who contributed to the death of Da-jin's mother, help Da-jin become a pilot.

Pilots may look fancy on the outside but actually live 'two-month fly lives.' It is the phrase pilots use to refer to themselves when undergoing physical examination, simulator testing and intensive training. And "Take Care of Us Captain" tells of their such tough lives. The lives of pilots and flight attendants are nothing but intense, with their responsibility to "give up on the wife's life for the safety of the remaining passengers" and an instantaneous error in judgement with the possibility to lead to a major accident. But this does not make them let go of the control column. Da-jin may have lost her mother in an airplane accident and Ji-won for over seven years may have suffered from the guilt of having made a mistake that led to an accident but they overcome it all and return to the sky. Delivering hope to viewers by showing how the dreams of pilots gradually grow the more they hit their limit is what "Captain" strives to show.

To see or not to see

To see? "Captain," set in airplanes, is a space where many things can happen. It can show both the dramatic incidents which can occur in the sky where not a single mistake is permitted and how individuals mature when they face their limit. The sudden accident which took the life of Da-jin's mother is one of the urgent incidents which will show how those people must choose between saving one person's life and securing the safety of many lives. Such urgency which could only occur in the sky, topped with the effort of the show's producers to depict on the lives of pilots realistically with "the set which looks as if the control room with tremendously expensive was moved right over," which will be an element worthy of drawing viewers attention.

Not to see? Da-jin, who always overcomes hardships with a cheerful face and Yoon-sung, who is realistic yet soft-hearted on the inside, do not have images that are that much different from the characters that the corresponding actors have played in the past. At the press conference for the show, Ku worried that the audience "may be fed up with the repetitive characters" she has been playing and Ji too confessed that he was "worried about playing a character that is similar from before." But Ku emphasized, "When I was young, I wanted to wear what didn't suit me but I'd now like to play roles that are right for me and give hope through it. I think I have changed a lot." And Ji expressed his excitement for his role saying, "I showed only the professional side to my characters in the past but this time, I'll show how he matures when becoming healed of his past pains." So will "Captain" be able to go beyond talking about characters we are used to and show a new type of drama on professionals?
